Ronaldo is one of football s all-time greats following his exploits for Real Madrid, Manchester United, Juve and Portugal.

The five-time Ballon d Or winner is Madrid s record goalscorer, while his honours include five Champions League titles, three Premier League trophies, Euro 2016 glory, two Serie A crowns and as many LaLiga triumphs to go with numerous other silverware.

Gotze needs fair judgement, says Werner

Germany striker Timo Werner believes Mario Gotze can overcome unrealistic expectations attached after the 2014 World Cup to prove he still belongs at the top.

Gotze, 26, has endured a steady fall from a grace since firing his country to the ultimate glory with an extra-time winner in the final in Brazil four years ago.

The injury-prone playmaker left Bayern Munich to re-join Borussia Dortmund in 2016 but the move has not gone to plan, with a metabolic disorder limiting his playing time and new boss Lucien Favre yet to afford him a Bundesliga start this term.

Amid public debate over his fading fortunes, Gotze earned an opportunity off the bench against Augsburg last weekend and responded with a vital goal in a chaotic 4-3 victory.

Werner hopes the strike…

West Ham United have completed the signing of Canada international defender Doneil Henry from Apollon Limassol for an undisclosed fee.

Henry, 21, joined Apollon Limassol from Toronto FC in the summer, but was immediately loaned out to the MLS side.

Toronto manager Ryan Nelsen, who played under Sam Allardyce at Blackburn Rovers, recommended the 21-year-old centre-back to his former boss.

Ryan was my captain at Blackburn for a couple of years and he rang us and told us about Doneil, Allardyce told West Ham’s website.

He said this lad definitely has Premier League potential and he has everything he needs.

With a little coaching from us and work in terms of how to defend in the Premier League, Ryan says he has all the attributes to …

Arteta hails Saka mentality, calls for Arsenal to capitalise on form in top-four race

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta hailed the mentality of Bukayo Saka to bounce back from Euro 2020 final penalty shoot-out heartbreak, while he implored the Gunners to capitalise in the top-four race.

Saka missed the decisive spot-kick for England against Italy in early July, leading to a wave of online racial abuse towards him and international colleagues Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford.

Arteta previously suggested the penalty failure would aid Saka s development and resilience, and the 20-year-old has supported his manager s comments with his best Premier League season to date.

Saka has scored 11 times in the league and assisted five more as Arsenal battle with Tottenham for the final Champions League qualification spot, while he has made amends from the penalty s…

Ligue 1 Review: Marseille revival continues as Lille stay unbeaten

Marseille s revival under Marcelo Bielsa continued on Sunday with a comfortable 3-1 victory at Ligue 1 strugglers Evian.

Bielsa caused controversy last week by launching a verbal attack on club president Vincent Labrune for not keeping the promises made to him when he was appointed in May.

But the Argentine, whose grievances concerned a failure to be consulted over transfers, is sure to have delighted Labrune with the start he has made, with the win against Evian serving as the Provencal club s third in a row to take them up to second in the table, having finished sixth last term.

Goals from Andre-Pierre Gignac, Gilbert Imbula and Florian Thauvin put the result beyond doubt at the Parc des Sports in Annecy before Clarck N Sikulu netted a late consolation for the …

Where could Arsenal be looking to strengthen before the January transfer window slams shut?

Laying down another title marker on Sunday afternoon and claiming north London bragging rights thanks to a away at Tottenham, Arsenal are on course to make real history this season.

Watching Manchester City suffer a public slip-up away at Old Trafford and once again widening their buffer at the top of the Premier League table to eight points, the Gunners find the mood in their camp at a red-hot high.

However, left frustrated over the weekend after watching long-term target complete a shocking move to London rivals Chelsea, Mikel Arteta s side have a fortnight until the transfer window slams shut.

Still without the likes of attacking talisman Gabriel Jesus due to a knee injury the Brazil international picked up at last month s World Cup, many around the Emirate…

Real keeping an eye on Sancho

Real Madrid are keeping an eye on Borussia Dortmund s Jadon Sancho, according to .

The 13-time European champions attention towards the 20-year-old England international is something that represents their long-term policy at the moment, which means they are always on the lookout for young talents whose futures look bright in the early stages of their respective careers. Sancho fits the bill perfectly.

What s more, Sancho is hardly a revelation at this point. He s been shining in the black-and-yellow of Dortmund ever since he arrived from Manchester City s youth setup in 2017, and attracting the interests of top clubs around Europe. It seems Real are no exception, but it is likely that they would face stiff competition for the winger s signature. Manchester United are re…

Bitesize Prediction: Carlisle vs Barrow – 31/01/23

Market: Carlisle win

Odds: 23/20 @

Looking to extend on their play-off charge in midweek, Carlisle will welcome Barrow to Brunton Park on Tuesday night.

Starting with the hosts, last seen putting in another rugged display as they claimed a 1-0 victory away at Rochdale over the weekend, Carlisle are enjoying what has been a stellar purple patch. While Paul Simpson s men might have been left disappointed by their 2-1 loss at the hands of Doncaster earlier in the month, the Cumbria-based outfit have proven that was nothing more than a minor blip. In fact, now winning each of their last three outings on the spin by an aggregate score of 6-1, it should also be noted that Carlisle have won five of their previous six matchups across all formats. With that run stemming …
